Why "Crazy Woman" ?

It is not clear what caused her to go crazy. Maybe it was the years she survived alone on the banks of Crazy Woman Creek which sent her over the edge.

Whatever the cause, it is said that she set her wickiup alone on the banks of the creek, and on moonlit nights, she could be seen leaping back and forth across the creek.

The Crow Indians considered this "Crazy Woman" a symbol of good luck. Other western legends tell different "Crazy Woman" stories. Perhaps one or all are true.

We chose the name, in part, because we thought that, as a symbol of good luck, "Crazy Woman" might bring safe travel and good fortune to the campers who stay with us, and, in part, because we thought that, with a name like "Crazy Woman," we could do some things around the campground that would be kind of crazy and fun...for our campers and ourselves. May your journey be the best.
